Content analyses of prime-time television provide a picture of predominant cultural stereotypes and social trends. The present research is a quantitative content analysis of social class in popular broadcast and cable television in the United States. This research advances scholarship by systematically analyzing character class in addition to more commonly examined variables such as race and gender. A model for the operationalization of class for quantitative content analyses of mediated texts is offered. This proof of concept study demonstrates the viability of studying media representations of class quantitatively to systematically document patterns of portrayal.  相似文献

This periodical is a highly read and cited law review in law, history, and political science. This article applies bibliometrics to a study of the 438 articles that are published in the periodical over a 50-year period. “I thought I’d have more trouble with white people!”: Exploring racial microaggressions between West African immigrants and African Americans

Racial tensions continue in 21st-century United States through the communication of racial microaggressions. We are interested in the communication of racial microaggressions directed towards West African immigrants by people with whom they expected to be allied, African Americans. Sixteen people who identified as West African immigrants were interviewed about communication struggles with African Americans in this qualitative, interpretive analysis. Owen’s thematic analysis was employed to analyze interview data. Results suggest the communicative impact of racial microaggressions on recipients is far-reaching and consequential. Narratives illustrate microaggressive communication occurs daily through invalidating, dismissive lines of questioning as well as targeted name calling and pejorative dialogue.  相似文献

自动走向佛门是精神解脱,被动走向佛门是精神禁锢。妙玉“身在佛门,心系红尘”,其情感矛盾的变化折射出她人生思想的变化历程,反映了佛性与人性在其心中地位的转换。人性的复醒,使妙玉对红尘生活的向往与日俱增,她背负着沉重的精神枷锁,步履艰难地迈向世俗世界。妙玉在人性与佛性的门缝中呻吟、挣扎,最终被佛性与人性两扇大门挤扁了,磨碎了。  相似文献
